Canva Face Retouch

Canva Face Retouch is a free skin smoothing slider for portraits, inside the Canva editor on desktop and phone.

Overview

Canva Face Retouch smooths skin in a portrait from inside Canva's photo editor. You open the photo, choose Face Retouch and drag the smoothing slider while the change previews live, so you decide how much to keep. Canva notes it currently works best on individual portraits. Because it lives in Canva, the retouched photo drops straight into a post, card or presentation with text, templates and stock around it.

Canva runs in the browser and as Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android apps, with an account required. Face Retouch and the export are free. Canva Pro is a subscription for premium templates, stock and bigger AI allowances, not for this tool.

When to use

Use Canva Face Retouch when a portrait needs a light tidy-up:

  • You want a selfie or headshot smoothed before it goes into a design you are building anyway.
  • You want a light touch with control: a slider and a live preview, not a one-tap result you cannot adjust.
  • You are already in Canva and do not want a second tool for one portrait fix.

When NOT to use

Skip Canva Face Retouch if any of these describe you:

  • The portrait needs more than smoothing: blemish removal, teeth whitening or eye work. A dedicated photo retouching tool covers those jobs.
  • You are fixing a group shot. Canva says the tool currently works best on individual portraits.
  • You retouch client portraits in volume. Face-by-face batch tools such as Evoto are built for that.
  • You do not want a Canva account. The editor requires sign-in.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Face Retouch works on Canva's free plan and the finished photo downloads as a JPG or PNG at no cost. Canva Pro is a subscription for premium templates, stock and bigger AI allowances, and this tool does not need it.

Select the photo in Canva's editor, choose Edit, open Tools and pick See all, then choose Face Retouch. Drag the slider and the photo updates live as you adjust.

Canva says Face Retouch currently works best on individual portraits, so expect weaker results on groups. For a group shot, retouch a cropped copy of the key face or use a fuller retouching tool.

Face Retouch only smooths skin, which softens the look of blemishes without removing them. Canva has no teeth whitening tool. For a single mark, Magic Eraser can paint it out, and that needs Pro Lite or Pro. Anything more needs a dedicated retouching tool.

Canva works in the browser and in Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android apps, with the same account across all of them. Face Retouch sits in the photo editor on each.
