Removal.AI cuts the background out of a photo automatically. You upload a picture and get the subject back on a transparent background, including the hair and fur edges that are hard to do by hand. An editor then lets you drop in a new background, add text, or fix the edges yourself. It is built for volume: bulk upload, an API, and desktop apps that all draw on one shared credit balance.
It runs on the web, through the API, and in Windows and Mac apps. Free downloads are low resolution, 0.25 megapixels, and for personal use only. A full-size image costs one credit. Credits come as a monthly subscription or a one-time pack.

Previewing is. You can run as many images as you like and see the cutout. The vendor states the free version covers low-resolution images, 0.25 megapixels, for personal use. Commercial work and full resolution need a plan. Signing up gives you one credit for a full-size download. After that, one credit gets you one full-resolution image, whether you use the website, the API or the desktop app.

Yes. The Windows and Mac apps run the same automatic cutout and draw on the same credit balance as the website and the API. They install on your computer, but the AI runs on Removal.AI's servers, so they still need an internet connection and credits to do anything.
The editor includes an eraser and brush to correct the edges by hand, so a mistake near hair or a thin object can be fixed without starting again. The vendor also offers a paid manual editing service for images the AI cannot handle. Since previews are free, you can see the problem before spending a credit.
