Overview
Compressor.io makes image files smaller. You drop in a JPEG, PNG, SVG, GIF or WebP and pick a mode. Lossy discards some data for a much smaller file. Lossless keeps every pixel and saves less. It then lists each file with its size before and after, plus the total saved. On the free tier there is no quality slider: it compresses as hard as it can in the mode you chose.
Files are uploaded to Compressor.io's servers. Free use with no account takes files up to 10 MB, and 50 compressions a day. Pro is a subscription that adds per-format quality control, resizing, metadata options and file renaming, and lifts the free limits.

When to use
Use Compressor.io if:
- You have a photo or graphic that loads slowly on your site and you want it smaller without thinking about how.
- You want to check the saving before you download. Each file is listed with its size before and after.
- Your file must not change at all. The lossless mode keeps every pixel, which matters for graphics, logos and screenshots with text.

When NOT to use
Skip Compressor.io if any of these describe you:
- You want to control the trade-off for free. There is no quality slider on the free tier. Squoosh and Optimizilla both give you the dial at no cost.
- Your images cannot go to a server. Everything is uploaded here. Squoosh and BIRME do the work inside your browser instead.
- You have a folder to process. Free use stops at 50 images a day. Compare other image compressors.
- You want compression inside your build or your CMS. TinyPNG has an API and plugins for that.
- Resizing is the job. Shrinking the dimensions usually saves more than compression does, and an image resizer is the right tool.
- You need the smallest possible file at a quality you choose. This tool decides the strength for you unless you pay.

Compressing images is free with no account. Free files can be up to 10 MB, and you get 50 compressions a day. Pro is a subscription that raises the file cap to 20 MB, removes the daily cap and adds the settings. You can cancel it from the account dashboard.
Lossy permanently discards some of the image data to make the file much smaller. Lossless rearranges how the file is stored without changing a single pixel, so it saves less but the image is untouched. Use lossless for logos, screenshots and anything with text or flat colour. Use lossy for photographs, where a small loss is hard to notice.

Yes. Compressor.io processes files on its servers, so your images are sent there rather than handled on your own machine. If that is a problem for the files you work with, choose a compressor that runs inside the browser instead.
That is a Pro option. Compression tools often strip metadata such as camera settings, date and location, because removing it makes the file smaller. Pro lets you decide whether to preserve it, and can also correct a photo's orientation as it processes.
It depends on the file and the mode. PNG graphics with flat colour tend to shrink the most, photographs in lossy mode shrink a lot, and lossless on an already-optimised file may save little. The tool lists the size before and after for each file you send, plus the total saved.
