Canva Photo Effects

Canva's photo effects style a photo inside its editor: one-tap filters, duotone color treatments, blur and auto focus, pixelation, and warp effects like liquify. Face retouch smooths portraits and shadows add depth behind subjects. Everything applies non-destructively, so an effect can be dialed back or removed later.

The effects are free, including the Liquify and Pixelify marketplace apps. Canva charges for Pro content and AI tools instead. It runs on the web, Windows, Mac, iOS and Android, behind a free Canva account.

Use Canva's effects if:

• You want a consistent filter look across your social posts without learning color grading.
• You want to direct attention: blur a background, sharpen focus on the subject, pixelate a detail that should not be readable.
• You want a strong colour look: duotone treatments for posters, thumbnails and event graphics.
• You want playful distortion, melted, wavy, retro-pixel styles, via free marketplace apps.
• The photo is going into a Canva design anyway.

Skip it if any of these describe you:

• You want full color grading control: curves, HSL, split toning. That is what a photo editor or a color grading tool does.
• You are correcting photos rather than styling them. Exposure and quality fixes are in photo enhancers.
• You want film-look presets applied across whole shoots. Adobe Lightroom and preset systems do that at scale.
• You do not want a Canva account for a one-off filter. Standalone photo filter tools skip the signup.
