Overview
YouCam Shadow Remover paints shadows out of a photo, both harsh shadows on a face and shadows cast onto a wall or background. You brush over the shadow, sizing the brush for tight spots, and it fills the space from the pixels around it. It takes JPG, PNG, TIFF and GIF files. It is the same Object Removal brush as Perfect Corp's glare remover.
It runs in a browser on desktop or phone, and Perfect Corp also makes the YouCam Perfect app for iPhone and Android. You have to sign in, and the editor caps how many free removals you get each day. Free downloads carry a YouCam watermark. Perfect Corp sells Plus and Pro subscriptions, and only Pro allows commercial use.

When to use
Use YouCam's shadow remover if:
- A shadow is falling across a wall or background and you want it painted out rather than the whole photo re-lit.
- You have a portrait with a hard shadow on the face and there is still clean, lit skin next to it for the tool to copy from.
- You want to decide exactly what disappears. It is a manual brush, not an automatic pass that guesses for you.
- You want to work in a browser on a desktop or a phone without installing anything.
- You already use other YouCam tools, so the shadow fix sits in the same online editor and the same subscription.
When NOT to use
Skip YouCam's shadow remover if any of these describe you:
- You need a file with no watermark. Free downloads from the YouCam Online Editor carry a YouCam watermark on the image.
- You are editing for commercial work on the free tier. Perfect Corp's terms say free credits and pay-as-you-go credits are not for commercial use, and only the Pro subscription allows it.
- The shadow covers most of the face or subject. The tool fills from nearby pixels, so with little clean detail left to copy from, there is not much for it to rebuild with. A photo editor with manual dodge tools gives you more control.
- You want fine, layered retouching on a difficult photo. For that level of control, use Adobe Photoshop.

You sign in and get a limited number of free removals a day, and the editor shows how many you have left. Free downloads carry a YouCam watermark on the image. Perfect Corp sells Plus and Pro subscriptions, and credits you can buy as you go. Only the Pro plan allows commercial use.
Perfect Corp states that subscription credits stack up in your account for 60 days, as long as the subscription stays active. Credits bought as you go are valid for a year. Its terms say those bought credits and the free ones cannot be used for commercial work.
It is a manual brush. You paint over the shadow, set the brush size for tight areas, and the tool erases it and fills the space from the pixels around it. It does not re-light the photo, it rebuilds the brushed area. The same editor has separate brightness, contrast and color controls if the whole photo needs adjusting.
It can, but only up to a point. The tool copies from nearby pixels, so it needs clean, well-lit skin next to the shadow to work with. If the shadow covers most of the face and hides the features, there is little for it to rebuild from.
It takes JPG, JPEG, PNG, TIFF and GIF files. When you download the result you choose JPG, PNG or TIFF, and a high, medium or low quality setting.
The shadow remover runs in a web browser on desktop or phone. Perfect Corp also publishes the YouCam Perfect app for iPhone and Android, which has Auto Detect, Lasso and Tap tools for selecting and removing harsh shadows.
