VanceAI Photo Colorizer adds colour to black and white photos automatically. It reads the scene and colours each region, sky, foliage, skin and fabric, to suit, with nothing to paint or mask. The colours are plausible guesses, not records. It only adds colour, so scratches and fading survive and get coloured too. VanceAI advises restoring a damaged scan first, then colorizing the clean version.
It runs in a browser and as VanceAI PC for Windows. A colorize spends 4 credits, or 8 for a 4K result. You get 10 free credits without signing up, and downloads carry no watermark. More credits come as a subscription or as one-time packs valid a year.

When NOT to use

- Your photo is damaged. Scratches, tears and water marks are not repaired here, they get coloured in place. Run a photo restoration tool first, such as VanceAI's own restorer, then colorize the cleaned version.
- You need the colours to be right rather than believable. The model guesses, so a uniform, a flag or a specific dress can come out the wrong colour with total confidence.

Frequently asked questions
No. The model has never seen the scene. It produces the colour that is most likely for that kind of subject, based on the photographs it was trained on. Grass comes out green and skin comes out a believable tone. It has no way of knowing that your grandmother's coat was red. Uniforms, flags, badges and specific garments are where this bites, because a wrong colour looks as convincing as a right one.
Yes, and VanceAI advises this itself. The colorizer only adds colour. It has no repair function, so a scratch, a crease or a water stain is still there afterward, now in colour. Worse, the damage can confuse the model about what it is looking at, so the colour choices around it get less reliable too. Repair the scan first, then colorize the clean version. Doing it the other way round means colorizing damage and then trying to repair coloured damage.
Not within this tool. It is built to be one automatic pass, which is its appeal and its limit. You cannot give it a prompt, paint over it, or tell it the car was blue. For that control, use a colorizer that takes a text description of the scene. You can also take the colorized result into a photo editor and adjust the colours by hand. It is built for black and white photos. VanceAI advertises recovering saturation from faded colour prints, but a faded colour photo can come back looking the same as it went in. A colour correction or restoration tool does that job.
