CloudConvert

Converts between hundreds of formats in the browser, with a serious API underneath.

Overview

CloudConvert converts files between formats. It handles dozens of image formats among a couple hundred overall, from JPG, PNG, WEBP, HEIC and AVIF to RAW, PSD and vector types. Options during conversion set the quality, resize the image or strip metadata. The same engine powers an API used inside other products, and the service has run since 2012.

It runs in the browser, and converting is free with no account. The free plan gives 10 conversion credits a day, with files up to 1 GB. Beyond that, pricing is usage-based: you buy conversion capacity as one-time packages or a subscription, scaling with how much you process.

When to use

Use CloudConvert if:

  • You hit a format everyday tools refuse: RAW files, PSD, AVIF, HEIC or something older.
  • You want control during conversion: quality settings, resizing, metadata handling, not only a format swap.
  • You convert regularly and want one reliable service for images, documents, video and audio alike.
  • You are a developer and want conversion in your pipeline through a real API with job chaining and storage integration.
  • Your files are sensitive enough that a published deletion policy matters.

When NOT to use

Skip CloudConvert if any of these describe you:

  • You need a JPG turned into a PNG once. Simpler image converters do it with fewer steps.
  • You convert huge volumes and will not pay. The free allowance is for everyday use, and volume is what it charges for.
  • Your files cannot leave your machine. Conversion happens on CloudConvert's servers. For images, Squoosh does the work on your own device.
  • You want editing with your conversion: cropping, compressing to a target size, watermarking. A toolbox like iLoveIMG bundles those tools.
